United Kingdom. Protocol amending the Convention for the Elimination of Double Taxation with Cyprus

On December 19, 2018 Harris Georgiades, Minister of Finance of Cyprus, and Stephen Lillie, the British High Commissioner to Cyprus, signed a protocol amending the Convention for the Elimination of Double Taxation between Cyprus and the United Kingdom (Protocol) regarding income taxes, capital gains and the prevention of tax evasion and avoidance.
This Protocol has not yet entered into force. This will happen when both countries have completed their Parliamentary procedures and exchanged diplomatic notes
 
The Protocol introduces a grandfathering period for calendar years ending December 31, 2024 or before this date, so that persons whose pension is taxed in Cyprus in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 1 of Article 19 of the Convention of 1974 may be taxed accordingly that Convention and exempt from the provisions of Article 18 (2) of the 2018 Convention.
