From April 1, 2019, in accordance with the Tax Digital Edition, about 1 million enterprises registered for VAT with a taxable turnover of more than £85,000 will have to keep their VAT records in digital form and file their income using Tax Digital Compatible Software. Eligible enterprises and agents should join the system as soon as they can.
The operating system opens about half a million companies whose business is relevant and simple, and in the coming months will extend to most other types of business. HMRC also listened to concerns and will provide a small group of clients with more complex requirements another 6 months to prepare. This will allow sufficient time to test the service with them in this operating system before they are required to join.
Mel Stride MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said that HMRC is transforming the tax administration to make it more effective, more efficient and convenient for taxpayers. The announcement means that about half a million companies will be able to join Digital Tax and start filing their VAT returns on the Internet, which will make it easier for them to receive taxes for the first time.
